Hey!
I hope you all are doing well this week. I’m excited to dive into Part 2 of our Creator Strategy Series! Today, we’re taking a deep dive into strategic audience building and how you can use your analytics/insights to pinpoint your target audience. If you missed Part 1 where we talked about how to define what makes YOU stand out to your followers & brands check it out below.
Why is it important to identify your target audience?
Growth
Here is the truth, it is just impossible to appeal to everyone. There are people in this world who don’t like chocolate…people who don’t like water, there are even people who don’t like Beyonce lol jk but my point is, it is unrealistic to think everyone will like you/your content. But guess what, there are currently over 8 billion people on earth, and I truly believe everyone has at least 1 million people out there who’d love what they create, stand for, or offer. Those people are your target audience. Your growth strategy should focus on finding and nurturing them, and that’s the real challenge.
Brands
If you’re a creator who wants to work with brands, remember: brands partner with you for your audience (unless we’re talking strictly UGC work). Having a follower base full of people who actually align with you is the difference between sustainable brand partnerships and random one-offs. If your audience is made up of random followers who hopped on board for a few unrelated viral videos, you’ll likely struggle to see consistent brand success.
Engagement
Your target audience is far more likely to connect with your content—meaning higher likes, comments, saves, and shares. Simply put, the right people = the right engagement.
So, How Do I Identify My Target Audience?
Your analytics is a great way to start. Check your audience demographic on any platform. How many women vs men follow you, look at the age data what does that show? Where are they located, mostly Canada, US, UK, etc? This data tells you a lot about who’s already resonating with your content, which is a great start to understanding who your target audience is.
Another clue to identifying your audience: think back to who you were a few years or even more recently. Also, what content have you shared that resonated the MOST with people? Who was that content for? BOOM that may be your target follower. Another way to think of this is, who are you trying to help?
Some homework for you to work on, think about your ideal follower and answer these questions:
Big brands do this all the time—every color choice, marketing campaign, and brand partnership is crafted to appeal to their target audience. As a creator, knowing your own audience lets you produce content more efficiently and intentionally because you know exactly who you are talking to. You can easily self-check every content idea asking yourself, is this serving my audience or not? Once you can do that more effectively, you are on the right path to growing a strong community which is the most valuable thing you can have as a creator.
I hope this helps clarify why audience targeting is so crucial. Let me know if this resonated with you or if you have any questions. It goes a long way for me to know that I am providing value to my readers.

Excellent and accurate. I just don't know what type of equipment I need to start and what platform to start using first for posting content. My comments on IG usually generate a lot of likes but I don't know why amd how to leverage it.
I love this. I just started this journey and I am in the learning and taking in all information
